My Work

I love doing art. It's something I honestly enjoy and I try to put my heart into each piece. While I loved art even as a kid, it wasn't until I started reading Warrior Cats and saw the amazing artwork the community created that I truly became invested in it, and my goal to become an animator came to life. Like all beginners, I began by copying the works of my favourite artists, studying the shapes they used and how they made their pieces. From there I began to develop my own style and improve it as time went on. However, it always looked rather immature to me and not how I wished, so I began studying the subjects it was based off in real life (cats) and incorporating things to make my style more defined and aesthetically pleasing. That's where I am today. I'm happy with my style, but always strive for improvement.

Animation has been a long and never ending learning experience. As soon as I started attempting it myself and realized its difficulty, my respect for those whose animation I adore and admire increased greatly. I enjoy creating ideas and plotting out key frames, and surprised myself at a growing love of cleanup!

One of my favourite ways to spend my free time is creating; art, stories, characters and worlds. Art is important to me as I see it as a way to express myself and develop the characters and stories that mean a lot to me, and more importantly, share them with the world. I love drawing, and I wish I had more time to dedicate to it like I used to. However recently studies and personal priorities (such as caring for my pets) mixing with a difficulty sleeping has left me physically and emotionally drained, and time is too sparse to dedicate to the personal art I love so much. However it keeps me motivated. The thought that my future could hold art as my priority pushes me forward and gives me hope. Here's to the hopes of a creative future.

Technical Talk

Since October 2019 I've been using a Wacom cintiq 13HD tablet alongside my laptop to do my art. (Works before that were done with a Bamboo pad and a slow jumble of a PC.) I love the ability to custom set the buttons because nothing helps more than having a finger always on undo!

Due to the lack of funds for high tech software, I first used FireAlpaca but now prefer Krita. I have become very familiar with these, but find myself easily adapting to new programs such as Oekaki for my hobby-job and TVPaint for university work. White I have my preferred settings, I still love experimenting with different brushes and techniques, and am constantly developing and improving my art and style!

My process always starts with inspiration or a goal. This could be an idea for a gif that popped up, a song I want to make something to, or the goal of entering a contest/completing a commission. After that I try and picture what I want before loosely blocking out shapes (generally circles and squares for characters). I'll then build up the body and plot the pose, tweaking it until the proportions look correct. Only then will I start adding features such as fluff or defining traits. (At this point in a commission, I'd send a screenshot and check everything looks right). After that is the hard parts. Lining can sometimes have me drawing and undoing a line 20 times before I'm satisfied it's how I want. Then I can block fill the drawing before adding colours and patterns utilising lock alpha and clipping before finally adding shading and lighting.

I love the process of art and like to look back and see how a piece has evolved!
